Remember today
The day will come when I remember today, and I will cry.
I will remember the warm welcome and I will cry.
I will remember their stories and I will cry.
I will remember the jokes they made and I will cry.
I will remember the smiles they brought and I will cry.
I will remember us laughing together and I will cry.
I will remember dinner around a full table and I will cry.
I will remember a trip around the city and I will cry.
I will even remember the quarrels and still, I cry.
I will remember the feelings, I will remember the fight, I will remember the bitter, the sweet, the gain, the pain, the victories, the loss, the rude comments, the snarky comebacks, the harmless bullying, the silliness, the sarcasm, the absurdity.
And I will cry.
Until finally, comes the day when I will smile.
Not because I no longer remember.
But because I accept that they are no longer here.
But they are waiting for me somewhere far away to make more jokes, to take a little trip, to have another dinner around a full table, have little quarrels and laughter, and to live forever like today.
